I also just heard a bird. I have no idea what this is but i ve been hearing it for about a year. I hear the footsteps as if they were running across the ceiling. So unless you re hearing ghostly footsteps across the floor.

Communal living and sleeplessness will do it. I m alone upstairs and i hear downstairs what sounds like somebody walking around quietly. The funny thing is at night when i m downstairs i hear the quiet footsteps on carpet upstairs. Your subtle senses experience what your physical senses can t.

It goes on between 2 4am. Trust me i saw the builders building the roof and there were no kind of animals up there. For the past 2 nights we have been hearing a scratching sound in between the ceiling and roof. Then when i m upstairs i hear the exact same sounds downstairs. The noise could be coming from your roof during the hottest days of the summer when the rays of the sun beat down on the shingles. I ve occasionally woken up to what i thought were foot step. My cat can hear it.

A lot of things sound like foot steps but if they go on and on for hours no matter what there s a good chance that noise is something else. I am hearing them right now it actually sounds like a horses gallops. We banged the roof in the hope that whatever it is will scurry away but no luck.
