There was a place in the side for a flat head screwdriver to lift it off and then a screw underneath to detach the outside door handle. A broken door handle can be a real headache especially when it locks on its own and can t be opened. This is a natural part of a door handle s lifespan. Each door set is a little different.

Grab the broken knob and pull it from the door. As we were taking apart this door handle we found a little round plate on the inside of the door. Depending on the manufacturer the spindle may pull from the latch or slide off the spindle. This problem is particularly bad if the knob is on an inside door since it stops you from being able to get into that room without climbing through a window.

Finding this is the key to fix door handles with this issue. 15 to 30 minutes this video will guide you through the process of repairing replacing or tightening your door handles at your home. The front door handle is the first picture and if you compare it to the second one you can see that the part that connects to the opening rod the yellow piece is broken off on the front handle and not on the rear. The trick will be finding out how the handle is secured to the door.

As long as no parts of the door handle have broken all you will need to do is tighten the connections that have loosened.
