Sometimes a rule is used instead of blank space. When laying out pages gutters should not be so narrow that columns run together. Gutter width can take up 1 4 to 1 2 from the page therefore there must be an extra 1 4 1 2 of safety margin space on the side of the page where the gutter spine will be. Again in the crop tool crop 0 5 inches from left.

In the crop tool increase the page width to 9 11 inches with the center box checked. This is a visual reference to stop you from crowding the finished edge the solid red line with text and any graphics that don t require bleed. The dotted green line represents gutter.
